As a result of complaints issued to Toyota Motor Corporation about engine defects in their Lexus model, this week has seen more than a quarter of a million of them recalled in North America and Asia. Complaints were originally received in 2007, which prompted Toyota to begin a thorough investigation to ascertain whether the reports revealed a trend.
The investigation established that a micro-foreign part in the engine valve may be the culprit which causes the valve spring to break resulting in engine failure. In 2008, they had tried to address the problem by thickening the valve spring and changing its design but did not at that time feel that a recall was necessary. The recall was now issued in acknowledgement of the rising tendency towards customer dissatisfaction. Since November last year, Toyota has seen a total recall of almost 11million vehicles worldwide affecting its rating in automotive reviews.
Electronics’ manufacturer Toshiba is set to effect the production of car batteries for electric vehicles after it concluded a deal with Mitsubishi Motors. Toshiba are confident that their technological capacity will see them gain an edge over other suppliers since their battery will offer easier recharging, safety and a longer lifespan.
In China, Zhejiang Geely Holding Company is set to buy Volvo from Ford Motors, a deal which is set to give China a great advantage in motor vehicle business since it has for a long time only traded in foreign cars regardless of having the largest auto market worldwide.
